Schmoon
What is Schmoon?
It's one-part fine-tuned production company and one-part team of goofballs who like to hangout and write. It’s also just a fun word to say.
The five members of Schmoon met through the Second City writing program. After graduating in the fall of 2015, we produced two independent sketch comedy revues and a play, Pinching & Screaming, which debuted at Second City in 2017.
Pinching & Screaming
Debuted at Second City February 2017
Extended Run at the Annoyance Theater March 2017
Our one act play told the story of a wunderkind mascot entertainer whose life is sent into a tailspin by a devastating mistake.
The play featured a cast of colorful characters, including an eccentric mascot trainer, a meat-obsessed singer/songwriter, Mary Lou Retton, FDR, and world famous lobster and gopher brother-sister mascot duo, Surf and Turf.
The show was favorably reviewed as "good-natured and amusing" by the Chicago Reader and it sold 105% of available seats during the run at Second City (don't ask me how). Also, look how cool that poster is.
Funeral Party!
Debuted at Stage 773 in February 2016
Funeral Party! Schmoon’s hour-long sketch comedy revue, pulled back the curtain and examined moments when a character's emotions don't quite match up with the god-awful circumstances they're up against. The show featured sketches about the inception of Italian phrases, arguments among medieval roommates, and soldiers who just can't get enough of King of Queens.
Schmoon Presents: Schmoon
Debuted at Chicago Sketchfest in January 2016
Our first independent sketch comedy revue, Schmoon Presents: Schmoon, debuted during the 2016 Chicago Sketchfest. The revue included sketches about kissing dogs, lonely bathroom attendants, and the internal struggle of awkward teenagers.
